Reporting to the Chairperson of the Department of Chemistry in the School of Arts and Sciences-Newark (SASN), the Supervisor Lab Instructional Support oversees the operations and safety of laboratories, courses, and stockroom (which serves several researchdependent academic departments). Manages and ensures laboratory safety for research and teaching laboratories.
- Managing and ensuring laboratory safety for research and teaching laboratories.
- Maintaining and keeping the workplace, laboratories, and stockroom organized in a clean, safe, and stable manner in accordance with established procedures.
- Teaching and training students, faculty, and staff on laboratory processes and equipment.
- Ensuring effective and efficient operations of all teaching laboratories and laboratory courses, using proper operating, maintenance, and safety techniques, impacting dozens of course sections, and hundreds of students per semester.
- Collaborating on course planning and managing preparation and support, working closely with faculty to determine experiments and procedures.
- Teaching and training students and technicians on basic experimental techniques, introducing general lab items, and communicating safety and other regulations to teaching laboratory users.
- Ensuring that all laboratories and equipment are maintained in a clean, safe manner in accordance with established procedures.
- Developing departmental process for reporting accidents and ensuring any accidents are reported immediately and in accordance with departmental and REHS policies and procedures.
- Managing and ensuring proper storage, collection, disposal, and reporting of chemicals and hazardous waste in accordance with Rutgers Environmental Health and Safety (REHS) and New Jersey Right to Know Act (RTK) policies, processes, and schedules.
- Ensuring efficient and effective stockroom management and operations, ensuring chemicals and supplies, including, but not limited to, chemicals, glassware, gas cylinders, dry ice, liquid nitrogen, and perishable materials are available on time, as requested, and without interruption to three academic departments.
- Planning and establishing goals and objectives; strategic measures; development and interpretation of policies and procedures for the purpose of effectively and efficiently managing staff and resources.
- Must be able to maintain professional demeanor and multitask in a fastpaced, stakeholder focused, team environment and complete work consistent with a basic understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of the Department(s), the School of Arts and Sciences Newark (SASN), RU-N and the tasks and responsibilities of the position in the achievement of these goals.

Minimum Education and Experience - Requires a bachelor's degree in chemistry or a related scientific field or discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of relevant principles and practices.
- Also requires a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience in a laboratory function.
