Who We Are:


Mental Health Support Services (MHSS) is the provider of mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorder services for children and adults in Chesterfield County.

We are currently seeking an Outreach Coordinator to be responsible for coordinating, integrating, and strengthening the County's addiction support and behavioral health efforts across various teams, expanding outreach into the community, and providing consultation, guidance, and training to staff throughout the Community Service Board (CSB) programs This position will involve participation in community meetings such as the Re-Entry Council, SAFE Task Force, and County workgroups.

Minimum Education and Experience:


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


Ability to work without direct supervision and must be self-motivated; Good team building skills, computer skills, and the ability to speak to groups.

Must have excellent organizational skills.

Must be able to advocate for others and communicate with people from all economic, racial, and educational backgrounds, as well as people in high-level management, elected, and judicial appointed positions.

Knowledge of the criminal justice system and victim's rights skills in providing crisis intervention, counseling, and information along with referral to clients; Oral and written communication skills, human relations skills, analytical and problem-solving skills; leading the implementation of plans, goals, and objectives for a project or program; developing, writing, and managing grants; demonstrated ability as a change agent with a track record of positive results.

Ability to identify and work collaboratively with key stakeholders, both internal and external. Skills in training development, social media management, and program development preferred.


Job Duties:

This position provides direct outreach and education to people who use drugs, their families and friends, and community members.

The Outreach Coordinator will provide community-based outreach, including harm reduction education and materials, conducting community presentations, working with internal and external stakeholders, and building connections with community resources (recovery, treatment, healthcare, and support groups).

Perform other work as required.


Additional Requirements:

Current valid driver's license and good driving record required.

Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months.

Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.

It is for one year and can be renewed for up to four one-year terms, for a total of five years.

Monday - Friday; 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
