    The Biology Department is housed in the College of Natural, Behavioral and Health Sciences (CNBHS).     Job Summary

    The Biology Department is seeking applicants for a full-time Boston-based 10-month contract position to begin in Fall 2024. Depending on the candidate's experience and professional goals, we offer several different possibilities for faculty rank. The faculty member will have the opportunity to teach courses in Microbiology, including but not limited to:

  • BIOL 123N: Principles of Microbiology - This introductory course is for Nursing majors and provides the basis for understanding the nature of human disease caused by microbial pathogens and viral agents. It covers the fundamental principles of cell structure and compares prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells; viral agents; bacterial genetics and antibiotic resistance; the principles of infectious disease, pathogenesis and immune response; the importance of vaccination as a key public health measure; nosocomial infections; and hospital infection control.
  • BIOL 221: Microbiology - This course is primarily for Biology majors and introduces the biology of microorganisms: bacteria, viruses, and fungi. It stresses control of microbial populations, systematic study, and use of quantitative methods.
  • The facultywill be responsible for lecturing and leading in-class discussions, teaching accompanying lab sections, as well providing office hours and assistance to the students. An annual seven-course teaching load is standard for contract faculty. As a full-time faculty member, participation in departmental activities such as advising and service are expected.

    Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Microbiology required
  • Ph.D. degree in Microbiology preferred
  • Experience teaching undergraduate Biology courses, such as General Biology or Cell Biology, required
  • Experience teaching undergraduate Microbiology preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students across a broad range of social and personal identities and perspectives.
