    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    Sort and shelve library materials, organize, and shift materials, empty book returns and check in library materials. Assist with pulling holds as needed. The candidate should possess excellent customer service skills, basic computer skills, functional skills, and the ability to work pleasantly and effectively with people of all ages. The candidate should be of physical strength to push fully loaded book carts and lift moderate weights. Work is performed with independence under the supervision of the Senior Library Assistant/Page Manager.

    The schedule will be an eighteen-hour work week. The selected candidate will also work every "rotating" third weekend on Saturday and eventually on Sunday. Weekend hours are 9:15-6:00 pm Saturday and eventually on Sunday afternoons.

    The person in this position will work primarily evening and weekend hours, as assigned. Although this position is based at the East Library, the selected candidate may be asked to work at other locations as needed.

    RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Loads books and materials onto book carts while arranging them in alphabetical or numerical order for shelving.
    • Places books and materials in the proper order and reviews shelves for items that are out of place.
    • Organizes and shifts materials to reduce and eliminate crowding.
    • Empties book returns and checks in library materials.
    • Picks up books and materials that are no longer in use from tables/chairs and returns to proper location.
    • May pull customer holds from the hold list.
    • Shelving reading as assigned.
    • Performs related tasks as needed.
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
    • Strong Customer Service skills.
    • Strong ability to learn and adapt to new technology.
    • General knowledge of library principles, methods, materials, and practices.
    • Effective oral, written, and phone communication skills.
    • Ability to use personal computers, word processing, and spreadsheet software.
    • Ability to work pleasantly and effectively with people of all ages and backgrounds.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library employees and patrons.
    • Ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
    • Must be able to lift, push, and carry up to 40lbs.
    MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    Any combination of education and experience equivalent to sixteen years of age and completion of tenth grade.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Ability to speak Spanish a plus.

    Preference given to candidates with consistent night/weekend availability.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

    • Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
