SUMMARY


The primary purpose of your job position is to plan, develop, organize, develop, and direct the overall operations of the Dietary Department in accordance with current and existing Federal, State, and Local standards, as well as our established policies and procedures to ensure that quality food service is provided at all times.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, and direct Dietary staff in providing quality food service.
  • Meet with Administration and other facility management personnel in planning dietary functions and food service programs.
  • Develop and maintain a good working rapport with other departments to ensure that food services meet the meet the needs of the residents.
  • Develop and implement Dietary department policies and procedures as they relate to care planning.
  • Keep abreast of current Federal and State regulations and recommend necessary changes as needed.
  • Review and interpret departmental policies and procedures and recommend changes periodically.
  • Manage departmental budget and monitor expenditures.
  • Serve on various committees of the facility as appointed by the Administrator.
  • Recruit, hire, and evaluate dietary personnel and ensure proper staffing and training of the department.
  • Interview residents and resident family members in a private office setting to obtain dietary history and ensure resident's dietary restrictions are met by the department.
  • Plan normal and special dietary menus as prescribed by the physician or care plan of the residents to ensure dietary needs are met.
  • Ensure that the stock level of food, supplies, equipment is maintained at adequate levels at all times.
  • Work with the Dietician as necessary and act on the recommendations given.
  • Provide direction to Dietary staff members when dealing with problematic situations.
  • Record and maintain dietary notes and records.
  • Compile and maintain a Dietary schedule and ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained at all times.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent patient care information housed in the Dietary office.
  • Review dietary complaints and grievances and make recommendations to the Administrator.
  • Ensure that established infection control procedures are followed by dietary staff.
  • Ensure that established safety standards are followed and maintained by dietary staff.
  • Delegate dietary responsibilities to dietary staff members to ensure efficient operations of the department.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to fulfill each essential duty with a strong degree of professionalism.

This position requires a detail-oriented professional with excellent communication skills. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • Must mínimally possess a High School diploma.
  • Dietary or Food Service management experience in a Long-Term care setting.
  • Dietary Certification from an accredited program approved by the American Dietetic Association.
  • Training in cost control, food management, and diet therapy.

LANGUAGE/REASONING AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

  • Must possess ability to speak, read and write English effectively.
  • Must possess emotional maturity, reliability, tact, integrity, and good judgment.
  • Must possess an understanding of facility's goals and philosophy.
  • Must possess good problem solving skills with ability to plan, organize, and execute work activities independently.
  • Must possess ability to interact effectively with team members, residents, families and visitors.
