What You Will Do

Business Development Associate will promote and sell Sharp services and programs to the public and health care community improving service linkages, maximizing care continuity and satisfaction.

Support Sharp in multi-service business and program development. Serve as a resource for both internal and external customers. This position is also responsible for the implementation of the appropriate annual business plans for the respective Sharp region. Accountable for assisting the organization to achieve its goals.


Required Qualifications

  • 1 year experience in sales, marketing, or account management in healthcare; or master's degree in healthcare may substitute for this experience.


  • Driver's License

  • CA Department of Motor Vehicles REQUIRED

Other Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing or in a health care related field; or 2 years of healthcare related experience in business or marketing in lieu of degree
  • REQUIRED
  • Utilizes reliable transportation and possesses adequate personal insurance coverage. Demonstrates clean driving record in accordance with requirements of the employer DMV pull notice program and Sharp HealthCare Driver Guidelines.

Essential Functions

  • Business Development
Implements strategies that drive incremental volume from Sharp HealthCare affiliated and non-affiliated physicians and strategies to retain volume.
Participates in generating new and innovative customer service initiatives aligning Sharp HealthCare mission, vision and values with care provided.
Serves as a resource to community partners to enhance use of respective hospital and related programs.

  • Communication

Facilitates education and outreach for referral sources regarding service capabilities, procedure scheduling, admission criteria, treatment guidelines, service delivery, and related business needs.

Establishes effective relationships with referral sources and creates positive feedback loop to leadership for improvement opportunities.

  • Customer Service

Facilitates ongoing customer service initiatives including presentations, relationship development with healthcare facilities and referring providers and helps grow the referrals from these facilities and providers.

Coordinates ongoing and meaningful feedback to leadership regarding areas for improvement and service enhancements.

Participates in community outreach such as health fairs and related activities to promote the value and benefit of Sharp services.


  • Goal Management
Participates in establishing annual and quarterly goals.
Assists the organization in achieving budgeted census through referral growth and management.
Integrates the Voice of the Customer into the annual business and marketing plans and facilitates positive and productive relationships.

  • Market Evaluation

Offer suggestions for program/service development and enhancement to ensure market position/share is maintained inclusive of ongoing analysis of referral satisfaction trends.

Actively participate in improving market share for Sharp services.

  • Professional Competency

Maintain membership in networking organizations that provide an ROI and serve on facility/agency advisory boards to strengthen external relationships and raise Sharp's visibility and establish expertise the health care community.

Provide qualitative presentations to these organizations for the hospital and the Sharp HealthCare System.
Facilitate the ability of the organization to host meetings on Sharp HealthCare's campuses.

  • Knowledge of the San Diego health care marketplace, key providers, influencers and community constituencies.

  • Demonstrates effective written and oral presentation skills.
