Duties:


  • Receives reviews, prepares and fills physician orders for prescriptions, bulk drug orders, compounding, bulk compounding, reconstitution, and preparing injectables for a full range of pharmaceuticals to include controlled drugs on the formulary.
  • Determines type of substance, strength, dosage, and quantity to be dispensed in accordance with accepted practice and pharmacy standing operating procedures.
  • Operates pharmacy automation equipment to include automated drug dispensing and prepackaging units (i.e. ScriptPro robotics, Pyxis automated medication storage cabinets).
  • Provides information to patients on proper use of medications, referring questions requiring professional knowledge to the pharmacist. Performs pharmaceutical calculations for a wide variety of preparations.

  • This position requires the completion of a preemployment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes filling prescriptions, distributing pharmaceuticals, and utilizing pharmacy based computer systems gained in hospital pharmacies, retail pharmacies, or in pharmaceutical firms or laboratories This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education:

A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Pharmacology.

Combination of Education and Experience:

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
