The AFL-CIO Safety and Health Department uses evidence to advocate for stronger worker safety and health protections and worker rights primarily through federal and state regulatory and legislative activities.

This team plays a leadership role in the safety and health community in the development of safety and health policies and initiatives.

It has broad responsibilities and is involved in a wide range of safety and health issues and initiatives with unions, labor bodies, allied activist groups and academic, public health and medical experts.


DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

Assist with analyzing the impact of regulatory safeguards and their role in protecting workers from hazardous working conditions;
Assist with developing materials that humanize the impact of these safeguards on working people's lives and livelihoods;
Highlight disparities and intersectionality of hazardous working conditions with other key and emerging issues; and
Assist in data collection and analysis.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Be a strong writer and communicator with a deep commitment to and interest in workplace safety and health issues and worker rights;
Be well-organized with strong attention to detail;
Ability to use storytelling and connect policy with real life impacts;
Strong working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Excel and Google Drive; experience developing multimedia products is a plus;
Previous experience with unions, safety and health coalitions, community organizations allied with labor or other labor-related organizations is a plus; and
Fresh perspectives and creative approaches are welcome.

**This is a temporary part time position up to 30 hours a week.
