The laboratory technician/research fellow will assist in ongoing research related to neurogenesis and cell atlas mapping in the nudibranch _Berghia stephanieae_ under the guidance and supervision of the Principle Investigator, Dr.

Paul Katz. The technician will perform cell isolations and help in generation of single cell RNA sequencing. The employee will be involved in the development of new protocols for introducing genes into molluscan cells.

There is a possibility for the employee to develop an independent research project and become a co-author on research publications.

The employee will be expected to assistant and train undergraduates, graduate students, and postdocs entering the lab.


Essential Functions

  • Performing PCR, cell isolation, in situ labeling.
  • Fixing, staining, and embedding nudibranch tissue.
  • Confocal fluorescence microscopy.
  • Working with collaborators to generate single cell transcriptomes.
  • Analyzing data and making data publicly available upon publication of results.
  • Training lab personnel in experimental techniques.
  • Performing some level of care and feeding of invertebrates.

Other Functions

  • Work collaboratively and effectively to promote teamwork, diversity, equality and inclusiveness.
  • Work in partnership with colleagues within the CNS community and across the campus to support the Dean's strategic priorities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission and goals of the College of Natural Sciences.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)**- BS in Biology, Molecular Biology, or related field required by the time of hire.

  • Knowledge of and experience with molecular and cellular techniques.
  • Knowledge of and experience with fluorescence microscopy.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)**- Interest in neuroscience, specifically neurodevelopment.

  • Familiarity with invertebrate nervous systems.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

  • Standard laboratory conditions.
  • Applicant must be capable of doing dissections under microscope.

Work Schedule

  • Full time, benefited position.
  • Flexible timing must be available for meetings during the work week.

Salary Information

  • Salary is commensurate with experience.
  • Range $40,000 $60,000 annually.
