The agency seeks a Principal Parks/Facilities Maintenance Worker for Enterprise Golf Course on the maintenance team. Under general supervision, this position performs skilled golf course maintenance work involving considerable responsibility, complexity, and variety.

Leads and advises the day-to-day activities of intermittent maintenance staff at the golf course, including planning, scheduling, assigning, and supervising work.

Additionally, this position trains staff in equipment operation, grounds maintenance, greens keeping, landscaping, building maintenance, and safety procedures and practices.

Incumbents in this class are regularly given independent work assignments as part of a group and complete additional relevant tasks as assigned.


Examples of Important Duties:


Primary Responsibilities

  • Leads and coordinates the daytoday duties of intermittent maintenance employees.
  • Performs various manual labor duties, including removing trash from the course, string trimming, weeding flowerbeds, hand watering putting greens, removing trees, and performing drainage projects on the course.
  • Resolve maintenance needs for the course and develop a schedule for daily maintenance tasks for intermittent staff.
  • Lead and offer assistance to the Golf Course Maintenance Management Team at Enterprise Golf Course, overseeing tasks such as scheduling, delegating, and spearheading work efforts.
  • Provide support in maintaining the irrigation system.
  • Assist with identifying diseases, insects, and broadleaf weeds for proper treatments.
  • Operates trucks, truck and trailer combinations, farm tractors with attachments, bucket trucks with attachments (plows, graders), trash trucks, box trucks, mobile stages, dump trucks, and tank trucks. Operates bobcats, frontend loaders, backhoes, and dozers. Patches and resurfaces asphalt roads and trails removes snow, grades fields and other park areas, and hauls materials and equipment. Performs routine safety inspections and maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
  • Assist at Paint Branch Golf Course and Henson Creek Golf Course when needed.
  • During the winter months, assist mechanics and golf cart mechanics with general preventative maintenance, grinding reels, and bed knives.
  • At times, coordinate, order supplies, and complete more significant projects on the golf course, such as installing drainage, fixing irrigation issues, removing trees, and spring and fall aeration.
  • Responds to emergencies and inclement weather conditions such as hurricanes, blizzards, and strong thunderstorms. Summons emergency assistance as appropriate. Opens and closes Commission facilities.

Working Conditions
Primarily works outside but may work inside on occasion or as assigned. May work weekends and holidays.

Exposed to weather, dirt, waste, odors, caustic chemicals, pesticides, wildlife, and potentially harmful insects (for example, bees, hornets, wasps, etc.).

Ability to occasionally lift up to I 00 pounds and regularly up to 50 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in groundskeeping, building maintenance or park maintenance.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total four (4) years.
  • Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required of their position.
  • Pass Commission medical examination.
  • Depending upon the area of assignment, some positions in this class require within 12 months of hire (a) Commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements; (b) obtainment of certifications including:
