Parents as Teachers - Parent Educator (Non-Exempt)

Selection criteria:
- A minimum bachelor's degree in psychology, social work or related a human service field.
- A minimum of one year field experience, 23 years of familycentered field work preferred.
- Insurable driving record with valid driver's license.
The Parent Educator should have an understanding of early childhood development, experience working with families and comfortable providing services in home settings.
The person should demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) with both parents and colleagues and an ability to relate to people with respect for their individuality.
The Parent Educator should be able and enjoy functioning appropriately in an autonomous work environment and be highly motivated and creative.
Lastly, the person should have an understanding of Northwest Indiana's cultural diversity and human service needs, and experience working with community agencies and a passion for the mission.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, although _other duties may be assigned to meet agency needs._
- Identifies and recruits families and children.
- Protects the integrity, respect and confidentiality of other staff and the families served in a culturally sensitive manner.
- Establishes individual family plan and communication system based on family assessment profile.
- Carries a case load of 4045 children and their families providing monthly and biweekly personal visit in the home or agreed upon location with frequency dependent on risk factors assessed for each family.
- Cofacilitates monthly group connections and community events as assigned.
- Attends PAT National training for Foundational 1 and 2 certification and ongoing training and educational seminars/inservices (20 hours in related topics as required by PATNC).
- Implements the four PAT program components: personal visits, group meetings, developmental screenings, resource networking.
- Works with the Supervisor to implement the PAT evidencedbased model and curriculum and adapt the program to meet the individual needs of families.
- Responsible for maintenance and updating of educational and activity materials used for direct service.
- Attends monthly staffing meetings and oneonone reflective supervision meetings.
- Responsible for documenting and organization of charts and webbased data entry in accordance with program guidelines and in a timely manner in order to track program outcomes.
- Participates in outreach efforts for community awareness and support (i.e. distributing brochures to area agencies, attending community functions).
- Reports to Supervisor with any issues including staff conflict, caseload concerns, scheduling and salary.
- Subject to evaluations by Supervisor, Peers, and PAT parents.
- Observes safe job practices, maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
Qualifications to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, be able to attend required trainings, have a valid Indiana driver's license and adequate auto insurance, and pass a criminal history check.
