Powell is a manufacturer of switchgear and other electrical equipment. We are currently hiring a Crane Operator at our Southeast Houston manufacturing facility.

Position Summary

Crane Operators are skilled professionals responsible for operating cranes to lift, move, and position heavy materials and objects. They work in various industries such as construction, manufacturing, shipping, and logistics. Crane Operators must have a thorough understanding of crane operation and safety procedures. They are responsible for inspecting and maintaining the crane, ensuring its safe and efficient operation. Crane Operators must also possess good hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, and the ability to work well under pressure.

Essential Responsibilities

Operates a crane following all safety and training protocols.

Conducts inspection, maintenance, and repairs of crane equipment.

Observes operation of crane equipment, performing trouble shooting procedures as necessary.

Documents crane operation actives including but not limited to; operation, maintenance, and safety.

Performs work under direct supervision.

Handles basic issues and problems, and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or General Education Diploma highly desired

Crane Operator Certification

3-5 years of experience.

Ability to read and understand crane load charts and basic knowledge of rigging.

Skills, Abilities & Other Requirements

Technical Skills

Ability to lift/move heavy objects

Good communication Skills

Working & Environmental Conditions


The crane operator will work in a construction/manufacturing environment, exposed to outdoor weather conditions, noise, dust, fumes, and potential hazards.

This includes varying weather conditions, noise from machinery, and hazards such as moving equipment and working at heights. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, and physical stamina is necessary for lifting heavy objects and operating crane controls.

The schedule may include weekends, evenings, and overtime, and strict adherence to safety protocols is essential for the well-being of all workers on the job site.
