Job purpose


An Area Manager has the ultimate responsibility for safeguarding the financial success of a specific franchise and maintaining the reputation of the company.

The role is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of 5-8 restaurants, maintaining high production, productivity, quality and customer-service standards.

The role manages and directs Store Managers to ensure efficient restaurant operations. This includes satisfying the overall sales and profit objectives for the area.


Duties and responsibilities

  • Monitor food costs for each store and manage the areas of operation which directly impact food cost including: PFG buildto, prep buildto charts, product preparation, spot checks, accurate inventorying, transfers, formula tests, hourly bread usage report, and training
  • Monitor labor costs to meet each store goals and coaches store managers in meeting those costs
  • Perform weekly and or daily spot checks to ensure each store is in compliance with Subway policies to include proper staffing, proper uniform and hygiene along with product knowledge. Identify any coaching opportunities as well as being in compliance with all Subway company standards, local, state, and federal law and regulations.
  • Accurately assist in weekly inventory and completion of all required paperwork
  • Drive company sales by ensuring legendary customer service and constantly seeking ways to improve overall customer experiences
  • Assists store managers with staffing needs by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees
  • Coaching, motivating, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results
  • Job performance management of all employees in meeting company policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Appraise staff performance and provide feedback to improve productivity
  • Develops a climate for offering information and opinions to improve store results
  • Ensure standards of are met in compliance with Subway and corrective action is taken after an audit by a Field Consultant and the Health Department and/or company staff
  • Ensures high standards of customer service is maintained
  • Handle customer complaints and queries in an efficient and professional manner in line with Subway standards
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy facility environment by following, and enforcing sanitation standards and procedures; complying with health and local and state regulations
  • Ensure that proper security procedures are in place to protect employees, guests and company assets.
  • Ensure a safe working and guest environment to reduce the risk of injury and accidents. Completes accident reports promptly in the event that a guest or employee is injured.
  • Maintains the stability and reputation of the store by complying with legal requirements
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge through Destiny Foods and the University of Subway
