SUMMARY:
Performs venipuncture and processes patient specimens for analysis or other medical purposes. Must be able to work with the elderly to infants.


QUALIFICATIONS:

HOURS: 8:00AM- 1:00PM


Qualifications:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED required. Possess Phlebotomy and Advanced Phlebotomy certificate from an accredited training institute.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:
California State Phlebotomy Tech I certificate required. AHA BLS certification required.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist patients in preparation for venipuncture procedures. Explains procedures to patient/family to gain cooperation and understanding.
  • Perform venipuncture using universal precautions/personal protective equipment and approved techniques to ensure appropriate patient care.
  • Complete all paperwork and documentation as required for each exam performed.
  • Utilizes Order Entry System to access orders and complete exams.
  • Obtain specimens, ensure adequate quantity for tests ordered; label and store specimens in appropriate containers, and complete applicable logs.
  • Respond to draw requests and with appropriate attention to order frequency and indicators of medical emergency (i.e. STAT, ASAP, and timed draws).
  • Assist with the scheduling of tests and appointments.
  • Recognize patients' privacy and safeguard those rights.
  • Respond to life-saving situations following policies, procedures and protocol.
  • Participate in the development, implementation and follow-through of departmental quality improvement activities.
  • Stock supplies as necessary
  • Process specimens in accordance with laboratory protocol.
  • Adhere to the policy and procedures as presented by Riverside Medical Clinic.
