Brief Summary of Job Duties:


As UCSB implements a new enterprise-wide financial management tool (Oracle Financials), the Business Systems Analyst (BSA) will play a pivotal role in providing technical business support to the Office of Budget and Planning.

The Oracle system that the BSA will work most closely on is Enterprise Performance Management (EPM), especially the budget and reporting module EPBCS (Enterprise Planning and Budgeting Cloud Service).

The BSA will be joining before of our systems implementation and will have the opportunity to provide a deep impact on selecting and implementing software.

The incumbent serves as a liaison between IT, EPM consultants, and Finance teams as we build a new data warehouse and design reporting and analytical tools that support financial decision-making.

As part of this process, UCSB will be developing new campus-wide reporting and analytical tools. In conjunction with the Sr. Business Systems Analyst, the BSA will bring their technical skills to design and create these new reports and dashboards.


Over the next few years, while we work on the launch of this system, this Analyst will also provide technical and reporting support for our existing systems, which include Microsoft's Power BI.


In addition to the current ERP implementation, the BSA's role will include supporting the development and implementation of mission-critical financial analysis tools that will be widely used for financial analysis and reporting across UCSB.

This position serves as a technical resource and works on accounting and data management projects of moderate to advanced complexity where analysis of accounting structure or data structure requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors.


Key responsibilities for this role include the following:

  • Coordinate the design, modification, and implementation of financial systems, data solutions, and related systems and processes.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive analyses, proposals, and recommendations.

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Three or more years of professional experience as a financial analyst, accountant, auditor, or computer programmer analyst, ideally with participation in the design of financial accounting systems. Required
  • Strong understanding of relational database concepts, database design, and enterprise resource planning systems.
  • Advanced skills and methodologies using data visualization and analysis tools such as Excel, Tableau, Hyperion, Enterprise Performance Management, Cognos, and PowerBI.
  • Deep knowledge of financial statements and accounting concepts and an eagerness to learn new technical and accounting skills.
  • Exceptional ability to think analytically and logically with a passion for data and technology to help support organizational challenges.
  • Experience cleaning and evaluating data sets for analytical consumption.
  • Prior coding experience in a modern software language is essential.
  • Skilled at explaining and summarizing technical information to nontechnical people.
  • Selfmotivated and works independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines. Demonstrates problemsolving skills. Contributes to research, planning, and troubleshooting efforts.
