Basic Function:
The Controller is responsible for various accounting and business operation duties within the NAAA Business Office. This role is primarily responsible for the accurate accounting of the Athletic Departments financial activities.

This role will supervise accounting staff, oversee business operations for several sport and administrative cost centers, review, analyze, and distribute monthly cost center, sustainment and Blue & Gold Reports to applicable parties, prepare monthly NAAA financial statements, assist with transactional accounting items, perform account reconciliations, assist with the annual budget preparation, work closely with
CFOon special projects, and improve operational processes and procedures.

This role will also take part in the financial accounting of the Naval Academy Golf Association.

Duties and Responsibilities1)Supervise and Direct Accounting Staff ensuring compliance with best practices and established financial and auditing standards; 2)Oversee the business activity of multiple varsity sports and administrative departments;3)Prepare, analyze, and distribute budget to actual cost center reports for NAAA and NAGA to sport and administrative cost center managers monthly, annually and accurately in a timely manner;4)Prepare, analyze, and distribute monthly sustainment and Blue & Gold statements to varsity sport coaches monthly, annually and accurately in a timely manner;5)Perform various transactional accounting processes;6)Coordinate and lead the annual audit processes, liaising with the external auditors; 7)Prepare and review monthly NAAA and NAGA financial statements for discussion with CFO;8)Assist with the preparation of the Annual NAAA and NAGA Budgets;9)Develop reports in software systems to assist in workload and provide others tools to add efficiencies to the Business Offices work process;10)Maintain and update various revenue/expense and balance sheet schedules on a monthly basis (Balance Sheet Review);11)Monitor specific Foundation accounts related to applicable varsity sports, and performs monthly/quarterly funding requests for certain cost centers;12)Reconcile travel and expense reports of certain employees within applicable cost centers;13)Assist others in the department with accounting and accounting software inquiries;14)Serve as a staff member of a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) - sanctioned athletics program, and understands that NCAA rules and regulations must be followed and strictly adhered to.

Maintains an understanding and awareness of applicable NCAA rules via annual compliance briefs to staff, the NCAA Manual, copies of which are maintained in the Compliance Office, regular compliance item e-mails generated by the Compliance Office, and the NCAA official website Div I Manual). Immediately notifies the Compliance Office if a potential violation of NCAA rules is observed. Understands that non-compliance with NCAA rules and regulations may be grounds for termination of employment;15)Perform special tasks as assigned by the Athletic Director,
CFOand assist the Business Office Team with accounting issues/questions.

Education and Experience Requirements:

1)Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance; 2)CPA or Advanced Degree in Business, Accounting or Finance Preferred; 3)Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in non-profit accounting or experience within a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) athletics program; 4)Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience of accounting staff; and 5)Substantial budgetary experience, accounting, audit preparation, and fiscal management background required.
