Job Summary:


The Art Teacher will instruct students in basic principles of art and art history through a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establish effective rapport with students; supervise students within the classroom and other assigned areas; develop lesson plans and deliver group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines; provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth; enable students to develop competencies and skill to function successfully in society; collaborate with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing instruction and/or classroom issues; respond to a wide range of inquiries from students' parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.


Qualifications:

Professional Educator License (PEL)

Endorsement in Art Education


Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Staff.

Terms of Employment:

This is a 9-month position. Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education. The position retains the Harvard Education Association membership and is part of the Collective Bargaining Unit.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Facilitates students' learning in correlation with the Illinois Learning Standards
  • Communicates the essential questions to clarify the learning goals for each lesson.
  • Configures lessons and select instructional strategies with the intent of ensuring that all students can answer a lesson's essential question by its conclusion.
  • Designs daily lessons incorporate Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization and/or Reading (WICOR) to ensure authentically rigorous learning experiences for all students.
  • Designs lessons to include 3 or more unique learning tasks for students, at least one of which includes wholeclass verbal participation.
  • Creates and nurtures supportive, studentcentered classroom communities that promote personal empowerment, academic growth and socialemotional wellbeing of all learners.
  • Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Showcases his or her own work and allow students to do the same.
  • Experiences in visual and graphic arts to allow students to explore different mediums.
  • Provides students with regular opportunities to collaborate with peers, move with purpose, and experience diverse instructional strategies so that they are physically and intellectually engaged as learners.
  • Provides students time to interact with instructional resources and materials in a thoughtful, active manner to support their comprehension and longterm retention of information.
  • Allows students to take an active role in their learning by setting and monitoring individualized goals, and processing and reflecting deliberately within lessons
  • Cooperates with general education teachers, special education teachers, bilingual education teachers, and related services personnel to accommodate and/or modify the curricula for special education students.
  • Implements each student's Individual Education Plan (IEP) as written and collaborate with colleagues to ensure appropriate modifications or accommodations.
  • Assists and provides support to students struggling with socialemotional and behavioral concerns through the MTSS framework.
  • Incorporates cultural diversity and appreciation within the curriculum.
  • Uses technologies appropriately in the teaching/learning process.
  • Participates in a professional learning community with a variety of stakeholders including but not limited to instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
  • Participates in a variety of meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively with parents and the community.
  • Performs other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the superintendent and/or Board of Education.
