Specimen Collector
-
This is a part-time position at no more than 20 hours per week. Monday-Thursday 1pm-3pm._

Specimen Collector is responsible for collecting urine samples for screening. Specimen Collector duties include interacting with donors, conducting drug testing, and processing and shipping specimens.


The Specimen Collector possess skills of detail orientation, organization, customer service, being able to work without supervision, good communication skills, and computer competencies.


  • Ensure accurate labeling, handling, and transportation of specimens to maintain sample integrity.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment in compliance with company standards.
  • Assist in inventory management of specimen collection supplies.

Examples of Duties

  • Facilitates the collection, processing and shipping of specimens
  • Facilitates the procurement of required collection items
  • Collects specimens from donors
  • Operates testing machinery
  • Follows policies to correctly identify the donor before any specimen is obtained
  • Properly labels and documents the specimens and prepares them for shipment
  • Informs Supervisor of low volume shifts, unusual problems or deviations from established procedures
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service and compassion when interacting with donors and clients
  • Maintains neat, clean, orderly client/work areas at all times
  • In uniform and badge visible while working

Typical Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of: _
  • Principles, practices, and techniques of specimen collection;
  • Federal regulations, state laws, and agency directives applicable to specimen collection;
  • Skill to:_
  • Compose correspondence and reports;
  • Operate a computer sufficient to enter, store, and retrieve data; and
  • Maintain accurate files and records.
  • Ability to:_
  • Communicate with, understand, and react effectively to a diverse donor population base
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with donors, and clients;
  • Accurately record information and
  • Maintain composure, interact diplomatically, and make effective decisions in confrontational situations;
  • Required Certifications and Licenses: _Possession of a valid driver's license or alternate means of travel. Certifications as may be required for specimen collection.
  • Experience and Training_:
Training is provided.
Any combination of training, education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities.

A typical way to gain the required knowledge and ability is:


Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent and six months of general laboratory experience performing a variety of laboratory tasks, including the use of a computer or any combination of training and experience that would demonstrate the desired knowledge and abilities of the position.
