    About the role and the team


    Leading a team of three, the purpose of this role is to pro-actively offer insights and proposals to ensure internal controls, processes and working practices are appropriate, complete and efficient, whilst fulfilling the needs of an expanding business and delivering the governance finance requires.

    This will include looking where possible to utilise all available systems within the organization to provide timely, accurate financial reporting and relevant KPI's for the Group so that the management team has the information it needs to support commercial strategies and tactical decision making.


    They will also be required to rigorously manage the balance sheet, working capital and the processes and controls required to ensure that both the business and the finance function operate efficiently.

    The role has overall accountability in ensuring that the Group is compliant on all tax and treasury matters.

    This is a 12 month FTC maternity cover position.

    This role will be hybrid based in the London office, working on exciting, award-winning brands like Sky HISTORY and Crime+Investigation.

    Key responsibilities:
    Controls and Process Management


    Pro-actively designing, offering insights and evolving appropriate processes and controls for the business and the finance function, to deliver on its obligations and help the business to understand the purpose of the finance function and the disciplines it promotes by looking at working practices, improving data/spreadsheets and better utilising systems.


    Manage the Payables transaction processing to ensure that supplier queries are dealt with on a timely basis so the working relationships with external and internal stakeholders are maintained and the Group's working capital is not adversely impacted.


    Work with the regions (Poland and South Africa) to ensure all appropriate controls are in place and ensure the external advisors are fulfilling their duties.

    Ensure that there are adequate controls in place in all Payroll areas in the Group. Complete the financial review of the monthly payroll and obtain relevant approvals.

    Prepare consolidated monthly reporting on payroll costs, headcount and attendance and review resulting outputs alongside HR and the payroll service provider (both UK and regional).


    Review the Travel and Entertainment Policy and ensure it is properly applied and that adequate controls are in place to keep the costs within budget.

    Also ensure that all relevant benefits tax regulations are complied with.

    Management Results and Reporting

    Lead the completion of the balance sheet and cash flow, with comparative against budget and forecast.


    Oversee and review all monthly balance sheet reconciliations by the whole finance team so that rigorous financial control of the balance sheet is maintained.

    Oversee the work carried out by the financial accountant to ensure accurate recording of month-end balances

    Prepare the forecasts, budget and 5YP numbers for payroll, capex and depreciation, interest, tax and cashflow and oversee the production of the other overhead areas completed by the financial accountant

    Manage the overall related party recharge process, including tracking monthly against budget/forecast, reviewing all invoices being sent out to the relevant entities and ensuring the recharge accounts are clean on the balance sheet

    Statutory Reporting and Responsibilities


    Liaise with external advisors and prepare the Company and Group statutory financial statements and accompanying notes, establishing an audit regime within finance and across the Company which is both cost effective and operationally efficient.

    Work with external advisors to improve processes and find further efficiencies on audit hours spent.


    Overall accountability for all tax and regulatory compliance issues including ownership for the timely preparation of tax computations for VAT, Corporation Tax, PSA and BIK and liaison with the relevant external advisors for completion and submission.

    Complete the ONS returns on a monthly/quarterly/annual basis.

    Lead the annual PSA process, filing the return and payments.

    Cash Flow Management


    Prepare, on a monthly basis, a rolling cash flow forecast together with commentary and variance analysis to highlight any exposures and risk mitigation using the Company cash flow forecasts provided by the finance team.


    Rigorously manage the Company's cash flow by ensuring reconciliations are completed and any variances or discrepancies are investigated through to satisfactory conclusion.

    Ensure efficient usage of the Company cash flow, particularly around foreign exchange risks.

    Undertake the line management, training, development, appraisal and motivation of your direct reports to ensure all logistical tasks are carried out on time and to a high standard and that objectives are being met.

    To be successful in this role you will be / have:

    qualified accountant with a minimum of five years PQE

    experience in managing delivery of process and control improvement

    to date technical knowledge on accounting regulations

    to date awareness of tax legislation in the UK

    ambitious and a team player, keen to add value

    problem solving and decision making skills

    Microsoft Excel skills, pivot tables and look ups are essential, modelling skills are desirable

    communication skills (both face to face and written); to work effectively and productively with both financial and non-financial personnel

    use of financial systems, such as SAP

    numerate with a strong attention to detail to enable accurate, timely and relevant information with added value

    experience in UK & International within multi-currency environments, ideally within a media environment

    to build relationships and quickly develop an understanding of the broadcasting business

    adaptable and positive approach to a varied workload
