Position Description:


The Teacher is responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, spiritual and psychological growth.

He/she is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success in accordance with The City School policies and mission/vision statement.


  • Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
  • Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis.
  • Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment.
  • Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers and community.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Respects the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws.
  • Maintains effective and efficient record keeping procedures.
Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as:
meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, arriving to school on time.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Professional Growth and Development:


  • Strives to keep abreast of current technology, implement such technology and allow for personal as well as professional growth.
  • Continues professional growth through attendance at workshop, seminars, conferences, and/or advance course work at institutions of higher learning.
  • Places high value on work ethics and professionalism
  • Instructors should hold the mission and vision of THE CITY SCHOOL, Inc. true and model the behavior prescribed therein
  • Seek out constructive feedback from superiors, parents and students alike

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Implements instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
  • Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with verifying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
  • Assists in assessing changing curricular needs and offers plans for improvement.
