Description
Lead and direct the materials function in a high volume, team oriented, automotive environment providing long-term planning to support plant objectives for on-time delivery, inventory dollars, DOH, supplier delivery, equipment utilization and use of lean principles and tools.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direct the activities of shipping, receiving, warehousing and support value stream material analysts to ensure appropriate training and development of personnel to meet operational needs.
- Provide overall management strategy and develop robust systems for plant inventory levels including raw, WIP and finished goods to meet inventory goals and support demand requirements.
- Responsible to monitor and manage delivery schedules to minimize overall logistics costs including expedited costs, packaging cost and fork truck utilization.
- Responsible to oversee production and scheduling practices to ensure alignment with plant and corporate goals.
- Directly support lean manufacturing principles and processes, as well as new product introductions. Contribute to overall corporate and plant strategies by participating in interplant activities and acting as a liaison with corporate materials.
- Direct materials function BOS measures to assess trends, take corrective action and meet departmental, plant and corporate goals and objectives.
- Responsible to train and develop the organization to understand critical concepts and principles of lean and world class materials management, i.e. making material flow.
- Participate in daily strategic meetings to ensure continuity and opportunities for improvement are captured and addressed systematically.
- Reduce operational costs through TVM and brainstorming activity. Perform brainstorming on a weekly basis to drive continuous improvement.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drive Materials Department QOS measurable past completion and towards "Best in Class"
- Contribute to overall corporate strategies and operations by participation in interplant and corporate activities, such as Best Methods, TCM, Materials Management quarterly meetings
- As plant staff member, participate in attainment of plant wide goals and programs
CRITICAL SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree in Supply Chain, Business or related field.
- Three of more years as Materials manager, preferably in automotive industry
- SAP system experience preferred.
- QOS and Continuous Improvement (KAIZEN) familiarity
- Customer relations background
- QS9000 experience
- Evidence of self innovation cost effectiveness, change management
- Effective communication and presentation skills
- Computer skills
- APICS certification
- Lean and Six Sigma experience preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Office environment includes, but not limited to, artificial lighting, computers, telephones, desks, temperature controlled.
- Manufacturing environment includes, but not limited to, artificial lighting, machine/equipment noise, some welding exhaust, noncontrolled temperatures, and PPE required.
- Some travel which could include an overnight stay.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to sit frequently for extended periods of time.
- Ability to move about the plant in both the office and manufacturing areas.
- Ability to travel occasionally.
- Manual dexterity for computer work.
- Ability to communicate in an effective manner.
