Energy Market Analyst

  • ICF is seeking an Energy Market Analyst to provide advisory services to the energy/utilities industry. Responsible for assisting organizations in improving their performance through the assessment, identification and implementation of strategic planning and goals. Incumbents advise clients in areas such as corporate strategy, business unit strategy, customer & marketing strategy, growth, and innovation. Services also include the development and review of financial business plans including potential mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.

ICF is one of the leading consultancy firms in the energy and environmental sectors, with a proven track record and decades of experience working with government agencies, NGOs, utilities, investors, and developers across all areas of the energy system.

The Energy Market Analyst will join ICF's teams that are working with clients to understand and keep pace with the rapidly changing energy markets.

As part of the Energy Market Analyst position, you will:

  • Perform quantitative economic modeling of energy and environmental markets using advanced simulation models.
  • Evaluate future market conditions, including the impacts of new policies and regulations, changing trends in commodity prices and energy usage patterns, adoption of new technologies, and evolving market designs
  • Work with various clients, analyzing future market conditions and assessing their impacts on the clients, including supporting asset valuation and strategy development.
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of proprietary ICF models and data sets.
  • Research various market components to expand ICF's market insights and refine ICF's modeling approaches.
  • Communicate findings from research, modeling, and analysis to both internal and external audiences.
  • Support project sales and client development efforts with market research, proposal development, and thought leadership development.

As an Energy Market Analyst, you will have:

  • The ability to understand and work with complex technical concepts, while also being able to communicate them effectively to a non-technical audience.
  • Strong analytical skills and capabilities
  • A strong interest in one or more of these areas: energy economics, finance, policy, analytics, climate change
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Experience and capabilities using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • A basic knowledge of programming, using languages like R, Python, etc.
  • An enthusiasm for continual learning

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year of work experience in energy market forecasting and analysis
  • Knowledge of programming, using languages, including, R and Python.

Preferred Experience:

  • 2+ years work experience in energy market forecasting and analysis
  • Advanced knowledge and experience programming, using languages, including, R and Python.
  • Ability to perform quantitative economic modeling of energy and environmental markets using advanced simulation models
  • Client management consulting experience, assessing client needs, supporting strategy development

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytic, and problemsolving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask, and work under strict deadlines.
  • Flexibility and sound business ethics.
