JOB PURPOSE
The Pharmacy Technician plays a crucial role in the pharmaceutical industry by preparing customized medications tailored to individualized patient needs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Prepare chemotherapy medications according to physician orders and established protocols.
- Ensure accurate compounding and mixing of chemotherapy medications, adhering to safety guidelines and regulations.
- Verify prescriptions and assemble accurate medication orders for dispensing.
- Dispense medications, including chemotherapy drugs, to patients or healthcare providers with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Maintain inventory of chemotherapy medications and related supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper storage conditions.
- Follow proper procedures for labeling and packaging chemotherapy medications to minimize errors and ensure patient safety.
- Collaborate with dispensing physicians and other healthcare professionals to resolve medication-related issues and provide optimal patient care.
- Educate patient on the proper administration and handling of chemotherapy medications, including potential side effects and precautions.
- Document medication dispensing activities accurately and maintain patient records in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Participate in training and continuing education programs to stay updated on best practices, new medications, and safety protocols related to chemotherapy handling and dispensing.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Certification as a Pharmacy Technician required
- Proven experience (at least 1 year) as a compounding pharmacy technician, with a deep understanding of compounding principles and techniques
- Proficiency in mathematical calculations and mesasurements
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to strict quality and safety standards
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with pharmacy software and computer literacy, ability to type 50+ WPM
- Background check required
WORK CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work in a pharmacy setting, often standing for extended periods
- Exposure to pharmaceutical compounds, chemicals, and equipment
- Requires manual dexterity and ability to lift and carry moderate loads
DIRECT REPORTS
- The Pharmacy Technician typically does not have direct reports but works under the supervision of dispensing physician or pharmacy managers. They may provide guidance and training to new pharmacy technicians or interns as needed.
Pay:
From $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
