How you Will Power our Purpose (Job Summary)


As the Aquatics Director, you will play a vital role in the Y's mission to enrich and empower the community.

Guided by the Associate Executive Director and Program Executive of Aquatics, your primary responsibility will be to oversee all aspects of aquatic operations and programs at the center.

Your leadership will be instrumental in ensuring a top-notch experience for all members and participants through effective coaching, ongoing training, and well-organized aquatic staffing.

You will be a driving force in achieving department and organization-wide goals by managing existing programs, implementing new strategies, and collaborating both within the department and across functions.

Building strong partnerships with the local community will be crucial as you work to provide high-quality offerings that positively impact kids, families, and the community.

Additionally, you will actively engage in philanthropic activities such as fundraising and grant management.

The success of this position hinges on your unwavering commitment to fostering meaningful relationships and ensuring consistency in all aquatics efforts throughout the enterprise.

Reporting directly to the Center Executive Director and Program Executive of Aquatics, you will partner closely with other leaders throughout the enterprise to achieve outcomes.


How You Will Make an Impact (Essential Functions)

Performance Achievement & Results

  • Risk Management Control and Quality Assurance
  • Maintain proper pool operations and management.
  • Management, quality, and growth of aquatic programming/operations
  • Compiles monthly statistics to monitor participation and impact in operations/programming.
  • Help develop, implement, and monitor the annual Aquatics budget.
  • Use databased decisionmaking for program/operational decisions.
  • Audit staff to ensure staff readiness.

Program Management/Operations

  • Initiation and implementation of aquatics programming/facility operations
  • Recruit, train, develop, support, and directly supervise aquatics staff in conjunction with association hiring efforts.
  • Plan, evaluate, and ensure all necessary inservices are completed as appropriate.
  • Help review and certify the accuracy of department payroll.
  • Ensure monthly pool and safety audits are completed, including review to ensure current staff certifications.
  • Ensure aquatics information is complete and up to date in the member services system, website, and mobile app at all times.
  • Respond to all member and community inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Conduct annual performance appraisals at least once a year, as well as staff appreciation/recognition, coaching, and progressive discipline when necessary.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, meet strict deadlines, and manage multiple program areas.
  • Communicate all aquaticrelated programming and events via social media, online, and through all intracenter and intercenter methods available.
  • Responsible for both Center operations and supporting Center initiatives.

Leadership

  • Representative to Impact Team for Aquatics
  • Create a positive and motivational environment for all staff.
  • Serve as a Cause Driven Leader on Duty and/or Director on Duty according to center schedule, and complete CDL report.
  • Provide leadership and coaching to department teams as well as all center teams.
  • Liaison for Project SAFE and other youth development and grantfunded programs
  • Thorough understanding of the mission and objectives of the Greater Austin YMCA.
  • Ability to manage projects and coordinate events in conjunction with other staff members and volunteers to achieve long and shortrange goals of the Association.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

What You Bring to the Community Enterprise (Minimum knowledge, skills, & abilities):

Education & Experience:


  • A bachelor's degree or a blend of education, professional experience, and training.
  • 23 years of work experience in aquatics or recreational activities, along with experience in supervising and leading teams.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook

Certifications:


  • Current BLS (CPR-PRO), First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, Lifeguard, Lifeguard Instructor and Swim Instructor certifications. YMCA certifications are preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain CPO within 3 months.
  • YLGIT, YSLIT preferred.
  • Bloodborne Pathogens and Child Abuse Prevention trainings provided by the YMCA must be completed before day one.
