ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Electronics Technician, Maintenance III maintains, repairs, troubleshoots, modifies and installs various types of electronic equipment and related devices such as electronic transmitting and receiving equipment radar, radio, television, telecommunication, sonar, laser, electro-optics, infrared, telemetry, and communications systems, and navigational aids); personal and main frame computers and terminals, industrial, medical, measuring, and controlling equipment; and industrial robotic devices. The successful incumbent applies technical knowledge of electronics principles in determining equipment malfunctions, and applies skill in restoring equipment operation, evaluates performance and reliability of prototype or production mode, and recommends changes in circuitry or installation specifications to simplify assembly and maintenance.
GENERAL DUTIES: The Electronics Technician, Maintenance III applies advanced technical knowledge to solve complex problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing manufacturers' manuals or similar documents. Examples of such problems include determining the location and density of circuitry, evaluating electromagnetic radiation, isolating malfunctions, and incorporating engineering; changes. Must be qualified to operate; maintain; repair; and modify complex state-of-the-art electronic, electro-optical and electro-mechanical equipment. Must be systems oriented and have the ability and knowledge to consolidate component sub-systems and assemblies into a workable system. Work typically requires an understanding of the interrelationships of circuits, exercising independent judgment in performing such tasks as making circuit analyses, calculating wave forms, installing wiring in aircraft for T2 Modifications, and tracing relationships in signal flow, using complex test instruments such as high frequency pulse generators, frequency synthesizers, distortion analyzers, and complex computer control equipment. Work may be reviewed by supervisor for general compliance with accepted practices. May be given the responsibility for a system isolated from the direct higher-level supervisor. Will usually be required to provide guidance, training, and work direction to lower-level technicians.
Must be able to perform advanced electronics mathematics. Will work with the Eglin Frequency Control and Analysis Office (FCAO) and/or Gulf Area Frequency Controller (GAFC) to perform frequency spectrum monitoring (SpM) in ranges of interest, utilize advanced direction finding and analysis systems to locate and identify subject RF emissions, and coordinate and report findings to the GAFC, FCAO, and/or other programs or organizations as required. Other duties include assisting in the orientation and training of other technicians at this level when directed by the supervisor. May be assigned additional responsibilities as a lead technician. Will perform general housekeeping and other job-related tasks. May be required to handle hazardous material/hazardous waste. Additional duties may be assigned to support contract/mission support requirements in job-related areas such as environmental, safety and security. Cross-utilization may be required to support other RT&T operations. Will be required to work overtime and weekends as required. Telephone recall for RFI call-outs may be requested.
OTHER DUTIES: Other functions include assisting in the orientation and training of other technicians at this level when directed by the supervisor. Job RequirementsEDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be a technical or service school graduate in electronics and have five years' experience as an Electronic Technician. Must possess a general knowledge of electronic component characteristics to aid in the selection of replacement components and devices. Knowledge of other trades such as the mechanical skills necessary to repair and modify servo systems, pedestal-drive systems, waveguide installations, and optics associated with laser and camera systems a plus. Must be thoroughly familiar with the operation of test instruments such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, frequency measuring equipment, and other related measurement instruments.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must have a working knowledge of spectrum and pulse analysis, direction finding principles, antenna theory and planocentric driven EL/AZ pedestal antenna operation. Must be able to calculate gain, path loss, dB power levels and approximate dB / Watt conversions. Must be able to determine dish antenna gain, free-space path loss and antenna beam-width with appropriate technical data. Basic understanding of modulation types and principles required. A good working knowledge of spectrum management is highly desired. Must be familiar with circuit analysis principles, troubleshooting methods and technical writing. Security+ Certification is desirable. RAMON/ARGUS certification is desirable. Soldering and ESD training desirable.
Candidate must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Supports E-OMS operational objectives; observes company Quality, Safety, Environmental, Security and Administrative policies. Supports Process Improvement.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: May perform work assignments in a temperature and humidity-controlled environment. Some tasks and assignments such as the installation; operation; and maintenance of mobile systems, aircraft systems, or range instrumentation will require work performance in outside environments in heat or cold with exposure to the conditions typical of various work locations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Required to climb, bend, stoop, lift up to pounds, pull, or carry heavy items.
