The Opportunity
This position works out of our
Abbott Park, IL (Lake Bluff, IL) location in the Core Lab Division. Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe.

The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments and informatics systems are often the first step in patient care decision making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers.

As the
Manufacturing Technician, you'll produces high quality diagnostic assay components in a GMP regulated environment.


What You'll Work On

  • Manufactures diagnostic assay components such as Antigen Fermentation/Purification; Tissue Culture; Solutions; Bulks; Micro particle Coatings; Conjugations; and/or Purifications.
  • Manufactures in highly regulated specialized facilities using complex equipment and systems.
  • Manufacturing and related activities must be documented with a high degree of accuracy and completeness.
  • Uses Abbott manufacturing information systems (SAP, MSS, WOTT) while performing manufacturing process steps.
  • Applies GMP; Bio burden reduction; and safety procedures.
  • Maintains multiple manufacturing certifications within the same area.
  • Occasionally functions as a trainer and resource for other manufacturing technicians for operations and manufacturing process knowledge.
  • Applies technical expertise developed to support problem resolution and process improvement.
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
  • Manufactures diagnostic assay components in areas such as Antigen Production; Tissue Culture; Solutions; Bulks; Micro particle Coatings; Conjugations; and/or Purification.
  • Works with Potentially Biohazardous or Biohazardous Material using required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Performs routine maintenance and GMP activities while complying with GMP/ ISO requirements.
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
  • Applies basic computer skills including word processing; spreadsheets; instrumentation related; and Abbott network systems. Communicates effectively with coworkers and management.
  • Performs supportive roles in critical areas impacting manufacturing: Problem Resolution; Corrective and Preventive Actions; Change Control; Error Reduction; Document Improvements; Safety; Process Improvements; new process implementation; Cost Containment and Control; SAP; GMP; Inventory Control; Compliance; Training and Skills Enhancement of others.
  • Performs transactions in SAP and Manufacturing Support System; Work Order Tracking Tool (WOTT) Systems as required on time.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves manufacturing problems with mínimal assistance.
  • Supports and occasionally leads group activities to achieve departmental goals.
  • Occasionally provides training to others on any aspect of process; equipment; or procedure within the area. Identifies areas to reduce cost in process; equipment; supplies; and materials usage.
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) on at least one process.
  • Proposes manufacturing documentation improvements and supports change control activities for manufacturing area.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in a scientific or technical discipline is preferred, OR an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Some related work experience.
