  • The Bureau of Real Estate Appraisers (BREA) is charged with licensing real estate appraisers in the State of California; it is the Bureau's mission to safeguard public trust by promoting professionalism in the real estate appraisal industry through licensing, education, and enforcement. BREA consists of two primary functions, appraiser Licensing/Appraisal Management Company registration and Enforcement. The Licensing Unit ensures that applicants meet minimum requirements for education, experience, and examination that comply with federal mandates and ensure that only qualified persons are licensed to conduct appraisals in federally related real estate loan transactions. The Enforcement Unit investigates complaints of violations of the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) and ensures that licensees adhere to all applicable laws and regulations.
