NATURE OF POSITION
This position has an EHS requirement.
The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that a safe workplace is maintained, will participate in regular safety audits and inspections, and will also periodically participate in EHS Committee lab tours.
The Ink technician is required to maintain Conductive waste stream handling in accordance with site EHS policy. All flammable materials will be handled in accordance with EHS guidelines. Position also requires a pro-active participation in the 5S, Continuous Improvements program, and Near Miss reporting.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTS EXPECTED
Under the general direction of the Aqueous Ink Supervisor, the Ink technician will be expected to manage the lab scale production of aqueous Conductive ink for commercial sale.
- Carry out lab scale manufacturing in a safe, accurate and reliable manner, in a time frame to meet preset deadlines and give recommendations on new or improving operating procedures in Conductive Ink Manufacturing Laboratory.
- Maintain reactors and vessels and ensure proper clean out after every batch completion.
- Develop chemical and material handling skills consistent with labscale Conductive ink manufacturing, including following tolerances for batch charges.
- The incumbent must have a full understanding of all the process equipment operation along with the knowledge to identify and troubleshoot abnormal situations.
- Report all abnormal occurrences and environmental problems to supervision immediately. Must have a full understanding of what action to take in an emergency.
- Communicate effectively by providing technician comments to batch processes, performing all database entries in a timely manner.
- Manage waste stream and disposal for Conductive contaminated liquids/solids in a safe manner and in accordance with site EHS policy. Ensure that company EHS standards are met through participation in training sessions, following safety rules, conforming to PPE requirements, and informing supervision of safety related observations.
- Prepare Conductive Ink shipments on a routine basis.
- Carry out 5S on a routine basis and weekly audits to maintain department cleanliness.
- Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and spare equipment to insure safe, uninterrupted operation including pumps, filters, tubing, tools, cleaning supplies, safety equipment etc.
- Various L47 Ink and Dye plant support, not limited to, but including:
- Moving material (upstairs, downstairs, and staging)
- Packing out material (including repacks and waste consolidation)
- Cleanouts (tanks and containers)
- Tank sanitizations
Additional Physical Job Requirements
- 8 hr dayshift occasional overtime if necessary.
- Manual handling includes lifting, weighing, and charging of solid, powder, and liquid materials up to 60 lbs (bags, carboys, pails).
- Routine requirement of standard PPE of safety glasses, safety shoes, and other PPE as needed.
- Frequent opening/ closing of containers using torque wrench.
- Handling and storage of flammable materials is required.
- Move / connect / use portable pumps, tanks, filtration equipment.
Know-How
The incumbent should have some knowledge of chemistry as relates to manufacturing and analytical laboratory experience. A minimum of high school degree and 1-3 years or more of experience in related field is necessary.
Desirable to have some knowledge of instrumentation and or physical testing methodology and the ability to learn new testing equipment and procedures.
The job consists of processing batch logs and the detailed manufacture of high value aqueous Conductive ink and collecting process and test data.
