Description

Bloomsbury, NJ - Klinikum rechts der Isar der Technischen Universität München (TUM)

PhD Position - Hearing Research with a Focus on Cochlear Implants

Full-time and Part-time | Temporary (48 months) | Experimental Audiology - Hearing Center Munich, Clinic and Polyclinic for Otorhinolaryngology

Your Research Project:

Cochlear implants allow deaf individuals to hear and understand spoken language.

During the cochlear implantation procedure, an electrode array is inserted into the inner ear (cochlea) to electrically stimulate the auditory nerve.

The electrode array can also be used to record telemetry data and estimate surgical and physiological parameters, such as assessing functional integrity through nerve responses.

The goal of this project is to use telemetry data (impedances, ECAPs, etc.) to objectively evaluate the success of the implantation and post-operative treatment.

Together with our experts from the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and the Technical University of Munich, and in close collaboration with an industry partner, you will collect data in a clinical observational study, implement and optimize algorithms for biosignal-based monitoring of implantation success.

Your Profile:

  • Master's degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Physics, Biomedical Engineering, or other relevant fields
  • Experience in biosignal processing and algorithm development (Matlab, Python, etc.)
  • Good communication skills in German and English
