This opening is a seasonal part-time position that will not exceed six months and may be scheduled for up to 40 hours per week.

Summary:


Retail Operations is seeking outgoing, responsible, and energetic sales staff to represent Jekyll Island and enhance the experience of visitors this summer season at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center.

Under limited supervision, the Seasonal Gift Shop Guest Services responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing exceptional customer service to visitors, performing sales transactions, and maintaining the appearance of the Gift Shop.

This is a part-time seasonal position, must be able to work weekdays, weekends, some early evenings, and holidays. Hours and days will vary. The typical season is April through September, but it can start as soon as February. This position will not exceed six months in duration.


Description:


  • Demonstrates exceptional customer service skills and responds to guest inquiries professionally.
  • Demonstrates a high level of enthusiasm and selfmotivation.
  • Operates point of sale system for retail sales, admissions, tours, donations, etc.
  • Deposits all receipts, completes verification of deposit records and ensures all monies are accounted for.
  • Provides visitors with information helpfully and courteously.
  • Participates in training activities to optimize customer service skills.
  • Restock inventory and maintain a clean and orderly sales floor.
  • Assists with special projects as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Two years of retail/customer service experience preferred, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
  • Ability to count money and operate a pointofsale system
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office, preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Flexible availability, including weekends and occasional evenings.
  • Reliable and punctual attendance.
  • Credit and Criminal background checks are required.
  • A valid driver's license will be required to travel between gift shops, other JIA buildings, and property.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:


  • Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and upto 25 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
  • More than 50% of a typical workday will be spent walking, standing, balancing (standing on and using 12 steps), reaching, using fingers to handle objects such as money, and using repetitive motions of the wrist, hands, and fingers.
  • Between 25% and 50% of the typical workday will be spent stooping (bending at the waist) and lifting.
  • Less than 25% of the day is spent kneeling, crouching, sitting, pushing and pulling, and climbing stairs.
  • Sensory abilities require vision, hearing, and touching, with more than 50% of the day spent communicating, talking, and hearing.
  • Must have visual clarity to prepare and analyze data and figures, use the computer, and expansive reading.
  • Noise level is considered normal to loud.
