    Job Description

    Harriman After School & Summer Program is looking for dynamic, engaging Group Leaders/Camp Counselors for its SONYC program. This is a part-time job that follows the school year schedule. The candidate would work Monday - Friday from 11:30 am-6:00 pm with middle school children.

    SUMMARY:

    Group Leaders are responsible for helping children with their academics and monitoring and managing children in and out of the classroom with the assistance of other staff. Keen observers of children and able to engage them in activities. Responsible for helping to execute in a quality manner a pre-designed curriculum and be excellent team players with the Activity Specialist, who specializes in a variety of subjects geared toward enriching the lives of children in the program. They should have knowledge of after-school programs and the mandates of the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOH).

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Ensure the safety and engagement of children in assigned activities
    • Assist in all activities to ensure the orderly operation of the program
    • Attend and supervise children during special projects and field trips, including those which occur outside of regular program hours
    • Complete 15 hours of professional development each calendar year
    • Demonstrate key competencies including initiative, teamwork, cooperation, and preparedness.
    • Professional and reliable
    • Adhere to all Harriman After School Programs policies, practices, and procedures

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Competency in youth development and child care
    • Highly motivated and organized
    • Exceptional group management, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
    • Strong verbal and written communications skills
    • Ability to work as a part of a team within a school community
    • Ability to communicate and work effectively and respectfully with a broad range of diverse people
    • Enjoy working with children, positive attitude, ability to motivate and guide children/youth

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

    • High School diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred
    • Minimum of one year experience working with middle school-aged children required

    Drug Testing:
    Staff members are subject to random drug testing throughout the academic year.

    COVID Guidelines:
    Face masks are optional at this time but the COVID policies of the program must be followed.

    Job Type: Part-time

    Salary: $16.00 per hour

    Schedule:

    • Monday to Friday

    License/Certification:

    • First Aid Certification (Preferred)
    • CPR Certification (Preferred)
