    Introduction


    Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD) is a diverse, bilingual community who in partnership with families, provides an equitable and exemplary education in a nurturing, engaging, and challenging environment to ensure our students achieve personal excellence and become lifelong learners.

    As such, we are looking for dedicated individuals who can join us in the education of the children at MSD.


    LOCATION OF POSITION


    This position will be primarily located at the Columbia Campus, but applicants must be willing to work at both the Columbia and Frederick Campuses.

    Some travel between our Columbia and Frederick Campus locations is possible.

    Main Purpose of Job


    The employee in this classification receives pre-doctoral internship supervision and training in providing school psychological services to students at Maryland School for the Deaf, from early childhood to high school, so they can succeed academically, socially, emotionally and behaviorally.

    Employees in this classification will partner with families, teachers, school administrators, and other school professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between the home, school, and community.


    Employees in this classification will receive close supervision from the school's Supervisor of Mental Health Services (Frederick and Columbia Campuses) and Behavioral Support (Columbia Campus).

    Their work will be performed primarily at the Columbia Campus, with some training opportunities offered at the Frederick Campus.

    Employees in this classification do not supervise other positions.


    POSITION DUTIES

    Examples of Work:
    Receives training and supervision
    in selecting, administering, scoring and interpreting psychological tests to
    assess for intellectual functioning, social-emotional / behavioral functioning,
    academic achievement, and adaptive functioning;
    Receives training in report
    writing and disseminating results to families and members of the Individualized
    Education Program (IEP) team;
    Receives training and supervision
    in conducting short-term school-based counseling;
    Receives training and supervision
    in conducting Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and developing Behavior Intervention
    Plans (BIP);
    Supports the development and
    implementation of tier I interventions such as Positive Behavior Interventions
    and Supports (PBIS) and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL);
    Participates in a variety of
    school meetings including Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) and IEP
    meetings, as well as department level meetings;
    Provides consultation and training
    to school staff and families regarding student psychological needs;
    Collaborates with members of the
    administrative team and other school personnel regarding student mental health
    needs and services;
    Performs other related duties.


    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    Knowledge of theories, principles,
    practices, and professional ethics of school psychology;
    Ability to receive training and
    supervision in school psychological work, including performing diagnostic
    evaluations, conducting school counseling, and providing consultation and
    training to instructional staff and families;
    Ability to prepare comprehensive,
    concise and meaningful evaluation reports;
    Ability to communicate and work effectively with
    others.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    Enrollment in a NASP-approved/accredited Specialist or Doctoral-level school psychology training program, and
    eligible for internship as determined by an accredited college, university or
    professional school.

    Knowledge of Deaf community and
    experience working with students who are D/deaf or hard of hearing.

    Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and
    written English.

    LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

    The school psychologist
    intern should possess or be eligible for licensure through the Maryland State
    Department of Education.


    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
    Candidates for this classification are subject
    to a criminal background investigation at their own expense (Maryland Code,
    Family Law Article 1, Sections

    Candidates for this classification will need to
    provide three letters of recommendation with their application.


    BENEFITS


    Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.

    As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled.

    The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits.

    You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

    Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period.

    This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
