The Zoological Garden Berlin AG is currently looking for a dedicated individual to join their team as:


Deputy Head of Department (m/f/d)

For the Hoofed Animals II Department (Giraffes, Antelopes, Cattle, Deer, Goats, Pigs)
This is a full-time position for 39 hours per week.


Your responsibilities:


  • As the 2nd Deputy Head of Department, you will be an important part of the department's leadership team and will be responsible for the management and organization of the department and a team of approximately 12 to 15 animal keepers in the absence of the Head of Department and 1st Deputy.
  • Ensuring the proper care and presentation of animals in the department at a high level of expertise and in line with current knowledge (working closely with the Head of Department, Curator, and Senior Animal Keeper)
  • Coordinating and ensuring the daily tasks of the department (including feeding, enrichment, animal training, and exhibit quality)
  • Performing all necessary animal care tasks when not in a deputy role

Your qualifications:


  • A team player and leader with a completed training as a zookeeper
