Objective
Provide a safe and healthy school environment for students, staff and community.

The Security Manager is a dynamic student-centered individual who is responsible for facilitating the development and maintenance of safe, secure school facilities conducive for learning and working.

The Manager serves as the leader of the district in implementing best practices, problem-solving, and facilitating planning related to school safety within all district facilities.

The Manager works with local law enforcement, District SROs, security assistants, event staff, building administration and district administration to effectively develop and execute security and safety functions of all students, staff and stakeholders.

Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills to effectively coordinate security efforts across the entire school district.


In-depth knowledge of security best practices and a thorough understanding of relevant local, state, and federal laws and regulations of school safety and security.

Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to assess potential security threats and develop proactive risk mitigation strategies.

Ability to collaborate with various stakeholders, including school administrators, security assistants, law enforcement agencies, and community members.

Proficiency in utilizing security technology and systems to monitor and enhance security measures within the school district.


Oversee the development and implement school building specifics and school district wide environmental, health, and safety programs, policies and procedures.


Improve the safety culture of the DeKalb School District, ensuring that all implemented programs are enforced and followed throughout the district.

Manage all project management for safety and security matters.

Monitor and respond to self-harm prevention systems (i.e. Safe2Help and Securly).

Training and onboarding of new security assistants, event staff, and administration as it relates to safety/security protocols and equipment.

Participates in interviews for all security personnel. assistants.

Support Security Assistant professional development and training.


Monitor and inspect facilities to ensure compliance with District safety policies in accordance with all local, state and federal regulations.


Conduct on-site visits to schools in order to evaluate their building crisis response plans, crisis kits and level of security and perform building safety and its inspections ensuring all district and building crisis plans and kits are kept current and represent the best practices in school safety.

Serve as chairperson of the District Safety Task Force and provide the leadership to insure a productive success.[1]


Consult with and advise building level administrators and crisis response teams on the development of building crisis response plans, drills and response to actual incidents.


Collaboration and communication with central office administration and school administration, as well as working in a team environment with the Director of Facility & Safety Operations and Union Leadership and members to reach goals and needs within the District.

Oversee and assist with crisis/emergency drills in schools.


Establish relationships and act as a liaison with safety consultants, SRO's, local law enforcement, Fire, EMS, Health Department, Red Cross, hospitals, County Emergency Management Agent and Homeland Security.


Manage the two-way radio system including testing and quality of service as well as managing the radio repairs and resolving communication issues.

Working collaboratively with Technology and Facilities relating to other radio requirements.

Manage the camera system including testing and quality of service as well as monitoring functionality of the camera system. Working collaboratively with Technology and Facilities relating to other camera needs.


Manage the card access system including testing and quality of service as well as monitoring functionality of the card access system.
