Since 1991, Elcowire Rail GmbH has been producing 8,000 to 10,000 tons of pure copper and copper alloy overhead wires, hangers, and suspension ropes annually with approximately 70 employees.

These products are used for railway and tram systems, as well as other overhead line applications.

In 2019, Elcowire Rail GmbH became part of the Elcowire Group (Helsingborg, Sweden) and is now the world leader in copper and copper alloy overhead line systems, with its headquarters in 06333 Hettstedt, Saxony-Anhalt.

Each year, up to 40 international markets are supplied, with 30 to 35 percent of the company's revenue coming from the "DACH region" - Germany, Austria, and Switzerland - followed by other European countries such as France, Spain, the Scandinavian countries, the United Kingdom, and Ireland.

Elcowire Rail GmbH also delivers its high-quality products to North and South America, Southeast Asia, and Australia.

In March 2022, Elcowire acquired the former wire division of KME Hettstedt, which now operates under the name Elcowire GmbH.
