General Administration Position Description:
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Serve as a strategic partner to the PI by assisting in developing and advancing strategic priorities across research projects, centers, and institutions
Oversee the PI's research portfolio of approximately 30 projects and 20 researchers. Develop an in-depth understanding of the PI's portfolio, ensure milestones and timelines are met, provide high-level administrative management, and keep the PI updated on progress and issues
Strategically plan and develop current and future research projects and initiatives. Advise PI on the strategic direction of new opportunities
Identify obstacles and challenges to operational success and propose solutions as needed
Serve as the primary contact for the PI at an executive level, including financial management, development, compliance, communications, etc.
Lead the financial management for the PI's research portfolio of about $2.5M annually, including developing annual budgets, conducting financial analysis in partnership with the Grants Manager, and ensuring compliance with funding terms and conditions
Provide PI with a high-level overview of research finances to inform strategic planning. Advise on the development of financial plans and proposals
Manage grant proposals, including drafting grant submissions, progress reports, and scientific reports
Monitor budgets and spending; work with project leads to identify, analyze, and resolve financial discrepancies and issues; revise budgets and spending plans as appropriate
Identify obstacles and challenges to resource management and propose solutions as needed
Communications Strategy Management:
Direct the PI's media and communications strategy by developing outreach and publicity materials, managing complex relationships, and drafting communication on behalf of the PI
Respond to and meet with internal and external stakeholders, including collaborators, institution leaders, and donors. May represent the PI at meetings to communicate the PI's work, interests, and goals for his research on his behalf
Synthesize information concerning scientific papers, literature reviews, books, and organizations into briefings and reports to inform and advance future research, and submit manuscripts and reports as needed
Develop scientific and programmatic presentations to disseminate information on research/program progress and key findings to foundations, donors, and scientific conferences
For the Human Flourishing Program, work in collaboration with its Program Director and Associate Directors to develop and implement a cohesive communication strategy across the PI's overall research portfolio
Other related duties as assigned

Chan School of Public Health, studies the frequency, distribution, and determinants of disease in humans, a fundamental science of public health.

The Associate Director of Special Projects will work closely with Tyler VanderWeele (PI), Professor of Epidemiology at the Harvard T.H.
Chan School of Public Health, who also serves as Director of the Human Flourishing Program to oversee the coordination of numerous aspects of research, finances, and communications across multiple institutions, grants, projects, and collaborators, including Professor VanderWeele's research portfolios at the Chan School and the Human Flourishing Program.
The Associate Director will serve as a strategic partner to Professor VanderWeele in developing and advancing strategic priorities of his research and programs.
