Background:


The Comprehensive Readiness for Aircrew Flying Training (CRAFT) initiative, launched in 2020 by the Air Education and Training Command (AETC), enhances pilot training through a holistic approach aimed at strengthening the physical and mental capabilities of Air Force pilots.

Designed to tackle the demands of flying high-performance aircraft and modern aerial warfare, CRAFT integrates three core pillars into its curriculum: educational foundation, performance enhancement, and early injury prevention.

This structured program extends across undergraduate and graduate training, enriching learning outcomes, promoting teamwork, and building resilience with value-added training touchpoints.


Aligned with the 19th Air Force Pilot Training Transformation, CRAFT utilizes the latest in instructional technology and teaching methods to prepare pilots for both current and future combat challenges.

It also ensures a smooth transition to operational units, optimizing human performance continuity with state-of-the-art technology and effective data management, thereby advancing the Air Force's human weapon system.


Scope of Work


The Cognitive Performance Specialist (CPS) at LMR Technical Group, plays a critical role in the Human Performance Optimization (HPO) initiative.

This initiative is dedicated to enhancing the mental skills and cognitive capabilities of fighter pilots to improve decision-making, reaction times, and stress management, thereby increasing overall mission effectiveness and safety.

The CPS will develop, implement, and evaluate cognitive enhancement programs and conduct both individual and group therapy sessions.

Additionally, the role involves conducting research across cognitive enhancement and accelerated learning and developing courseware to prepare USAF aircrew training personnel for the rigors of combat aviation.

Daily activities may include programming, teaching academics in a traditional classroom setting, one-on-one performance consultations, and group briefings.

This role requires direct consultation with military commanders and other HP specialists to tailor cognitive training to operational needs and to integrate it with overall pilot training and operations.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Design, administer, and evaluate cognitive performance enhancement programs using the latest psychological research and techniques.
  • Train and educate fighter pilots in individual and group settings on various cognitive, mental, and behavioral skills, using evidencebased peerreviewed literature.
  • Provide psychological support and counseling to improve mental health and cognitive resilience.
  • Assist in the planning, scheduling, execution, and validation of the HP program's efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Utilize simulation technology and biofeedback to enhance performance in combat or highpressure situations.
  • Work closely with medical personnel, military commanders, and a multidisciplinary team of HP specialists including strength and conditioning coaches, performance dietitians, and physical therapists.
  • Develop and deliver cognitive performance content and materials for educational purposes, maintaining all professional certifications and credentials.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:


  • Master's degree in Psychology, Counseling, Human Performance, Sport Psychology, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or a related field from an institution accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA).
  • Minimum of five years of experience in independent practice, with a strong background in cognitive performance training and psychological counseling.
  • Current basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification, including Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training.
  • Pass required background check: National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Doctoral degree in Psychology, Counseling, Human Performance, Sport Psychology, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or related fields.
  • Certification as a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) is desired.
  • Current, unrestricted license to practice in the respective field.
  • 10+ years combined experience with a master's degree (or 5+ years with doctorallevel degree) providing cognitive performance services in highperformance environments such as NCAA Division I athletes, Olympic athletes, professional sports participants, or similar manmachine highperformance environments.
  • Previous work in government settings, such as the Department of Defense or Veterans Affairs Medical Treatment Facilities.
