JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for requesting payment and collecting overdue balances from patients. Contacts patients by phone and receives incoming calls to review account details. Responds to patient questions and sets up alternative payment plans if necessary. May perform other duties including, but not limited to insurance verification, billing, write-offs and other projects as needed.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Review patient accounts and request adjustments and/or refunds, as appropriate.
  • Establish payment plans for high dollar OB procedures and deliveries.
  • Counsel patients with outstanding account balances and set up and monitor payment plans.
  • Review pending charges for patient's that are on sliding fee schedules and process encounters with appropriate slide.
  • Responsible for tasking providers in NextGen to notify them of incomplete signoffs.
  • Monitor Medicaid pending report.
  • Responsible for staying current with the rules and regulations and updates or changes in state and federal regulations.
  • Inform billing manager of accounts receivable issues, and the potential effect the issues may have on the organization.
  • Identify encounters that qualify for Family Planning and add coverage.
  • Continually search for ways to improve the accounts receivable process, striving for efficiency in daily operations.
  • Answer all phone inquiries for patient balances and take payments by phone.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Billing Manager.
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.

EDUCATION/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATIONS:


REQUIRED:


  • Fluent in Spanish, both oral and written.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Two years' work experience in a medical office environment, to include specifically working with selfpay patients, and knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare and other thirdparty payer billing practices.
  • Experience with medical and dental terminology, procedural and diagnosis coding (ICD, CPT, HCPCS, and CDT).
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to deal professionally, courteously and efficiently with the public and all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to operate computer, copier, fax, and 10key machine.
  • Basic accounting knowledge.
  • Ability to work with people of all socioeconomic levels.
  • Consumer advocate for quality health care and services.

Hours:
Work hours are generally a regular workday of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. five days per week, Monday through Friday.
