Position:
Custodian

Reports to:
Director of Operations

Summary of Position:
The custodian is in charge of maintaining the cleanliness and proper upkeep of the shelter facility, serving as a vital member of the Operations team.

Essential Responsibilities:

- Cleans dormitories, bathrooms, community areas, and offices.
- Performs minor maintenance and repairs in the shelter.
- Ensures the cleanliness and maintenance of the grounds, including trash pickup, snow removal, and garden care.
- Handles floor care by stripping, shampooing, and waxing.
- Manages laundry duties such as washing, drying, and storing linens.
- Monitors cleaning and laundry equipment inventory, notifying the supervisor of any needs.
- Assists in receiving, moving, and storing donations, with controlled access by residents.
- Participates in staff meetings, required training, and serves as a positive role model for residents.
- Maintains flexible working hours, including evenings, weekends, and overnights as needed.
- Demonstrates a caring and respectful attitude towards residents.
- Familiarity with and adherence to New Hope Housing's policies and procedures.
- Drives agency vehicles, including a 15-passenger van, as needed and requested.
- Carries out additional assigned duties.

Preferred Qualifications:

This role necessitates:

Previous experience in custodial work.

Ability to complete various routine tasks on a consistent basis.
Commitment to the mission and values of New Hope Housing.
Interest in working with the homeless population and understanding their needs.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to pass a background check and hold a valid driver's license with a good record.
Capability to lift up to 50 pounds.
