- Report directly to the CEO, overseeing the operational aspects of the business, including production, quality management, and facilities, while supporting sales, engineering, HR, and accounting functions.
- Lead the formulation and execution of operational and strategic engineering objectives for the company.
- Manage and provide guidance to teams in operations/engineering, production, sales, and quality, while also driving the expansion of the company's proprietary intellectual property portfolio.
- Ensure seamless day-to-day operations across Engineering, Production, Quality, Team Leaders, sales, logistics, and procurement, optimizing the use of ERP systems (specifically Epicor E11).
- Maintain operational oversight, providing regular performance updates and addressing challenges to the Chief Technical Officer.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring compliance with regulations, legal standards, and the highest levels of quality and safety.
- Collaborate with the management team to identify and mitigate business risks.
- Oversee Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) compliance and initiatives.
- Proactively identify talent gaps and support talent development initiatives.
- Be accountable for achieving financial and operational targets, including manufacturing and engineering quality costs.
- Develop and implement engineering processes and procedures, guiding the team in translating customer RFQs into actionable solutions.
- Manage the origination, development, and filing of new intellectual property.
- Collaborate with business development and sales teams to assess new opportunities.
- Represent operations and production in cross-functional product development teams.
- Act as a key decision-maker in interactions with customers, suppliers, and industry stakeholders.
- Conduct data collection and research to support operational decision-making.
- Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Engineering (preferably Mechanical Engineering) with a minimum of 7 years of experience in a high-tech custom production environment.
- Ideally, experience in optics and opto-mechanical systems, including tools and design.
- Hands-on experience and understanding of optical and opto-mechanical best practices.
- Familiarity with optical tests such as interferometers, beam profilers, and metrology.
- Strong grasp of optical concepts including ray aberrations, waves, diffraction, interference, Gaussian propagation, lasers, imaging, and interferometry.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SolidWorks or similar software.
- Expertise in setting up, using, and troubleshooting ERP systems (currently using Epicor E11).
- Ability to analyze and synthesize complex information effectively.
