Duties & Responsibilities

  • Marine Care: Manage and maintain a 450gallon saltwater system housing jellyfish, including regular monitoring, cleaning, and ensuring a healthy environment for the marine life.
  • Equine Care: Provide comprehensive care and handling for three horses at the Al Marah Equine Research Center. Responsibilities include feeding, grooming, and general maintenance of the horses.
  • Horse Training and Exercise: Engage in routine horse exercising and lunging, ensuring their wellbeing and fitness.
  • Research Assistance: Assist in various research activities, which may include filming both the horses and jellyfish for study purposes.
  • General Duties: Undertake additional tasks as required, which may involve various aspects of animal care and research support.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with the maintenance of saltwater aquaria.
  • Ability to work flexibly, including over breaks, holidays, and weekends as needed.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven experience or strong interest in animal care, particularly with horses and marine life.
  • Reliable transportation to work on the UA campus and travel approximately 11 miles to the Al Marah Equine Research Center.
  • Experience in lunging and handling horses.
  • Additional experience in animal care beyond the specified marine and equine responsibilities.
