Valor Academy of Ohio is looking for a Academic Support Specialist (paraprofessional) to join their growing team. **Position Summary:** Support building wide PBIS initiative for students to Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible, and support students learning in small groups, and team projects.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Pursuant to current Employee Expectations and Guidelines):**

Monitor student engagement in classroom instruction and mastery learning activities and support learning

Coach small groups of students in teacher created / curriculum generated projects, activities, and assignments

Work with students who need extra support and encouragement to work through challenging academic work

Monitor students working independently online and provide academic support when challenges or questions arise

Monitoring or supporting duties as otherwise assigned.

Ability to work from the school campus during scheduled work hours.

Maintain professional confidentiality of personal and private matters pertaining to students, parents, and co-workers

Acknowledge and accept direction from leadership

A positive regard to students and families from poverty-stricken and Urban communities

Ability to adapt to change while conveying professionalism

Moderate to high level of comfort with technology

**Specific Job Skills/Abilities:**

Ability to build positive relationships with students

Ability to encourage frustrated students to keep trying

High regard for the importance of education

Ability to read social situations with a multicultural mindset (or be willing to be trained to learn how).

**Education/Training:**

Associate degree or two or more years of transcribed college courses or pass the Paraprofessional Exam

High-School Diploma + Willingness to take Paraprofessional Exam

Possess a baseline Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and FBI criminal background check at the time of employment

Educational Aide permit required at the time of employment

**Environmental Conditions**: 4th - 8th grade Academy, collaborative environment focused on positivity, scholarship, and holistic development.

**$16.00 to $18.00/hour based on education, skills and experience.**
