    What You'll Do Here

    • Adheres to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Protocols while conducting various procedures on study and stock animals.
      • Responsibilities encompass clinical observations, monitoring food consumption, recording body weights, collecting urine, administering injectable anesthesia, facilitating mating procedures, conducting blood draws through various routes, performing euthanasia/necropsy, catheter placement, restraint, enrichment, and managing feeding and food removal.
    • Generates study-specific forms and labels as directed. Follows both written and verbal instructions, including SOPs, Protocols, and Daily Schedules. Records, enters, and reviews raw data, as well as information related to studies and facility operations.
    • Prepares for procedures and ensures the upkeep of ancillary equipment for study animals, including supporting surgical procedures (e.g., sterile preparation, anesthesia machine setup and monitoring, post-surgery recovery). Operates designated laboratory equipment such as glucometers, Harvard pumps, digital thermometers, centrifuges, and incubators.
    • Keeps a vigilant eye on animal behavior and health, promptly reporting any changes or issues in animal rooms, including concerns related to caging, lighting, and temperature, to the relevant personnel.
    • Maintains the cleanliness and organization of work areas. Alerts the Study Director and appropriate personnel about any modifications in study conditions.
    • Possibly contributes to the creation and revision of SOPs pertaining to animals, technical procedures, and facility matters. Assists with veterinary treatments for research and colony animals, conducts abnormal behavior assessments, and supports the animal socialization program, if assigned.
    • May also carry out husbandry duties and cross-train in other departments as required.

    What You'll Need To Succeed

    Education:

    • High School Diploma and/or GED required; a BS/BA in a scientific discipline is preferred.

    Experience:

    • 0-2 years of experience working with animals, in a research setting, or in a regulated environment.
    • ALAT certification is preferred.

    Skills:

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Info Path, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
    • Adaptability to new software programs.

    Reading and Writing:

    • Ability to read and interpret various documents, including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, software manuals, study documents, and procedure manuals.
    • Proficient in writing routine reports and correspondence.

    Math Skills:

    • Competency in utilizing appropriate mathematical concepts for calculating and interpreting scientific data.

    Shift / Schedule

    RA - Small Animal

    • Paid Training time (5-6 months)- Monday - Friday 7am - 3:30 pm
    • After training - Tuesday - Saturday OR Sunday - Thursday - 7am- 3:30 pm

    RA - Large Animal

    • Training time (2-3 months)- Monday - Friday 8am - 4 pm
    • After training - Tuesday - Saturday OR Sunday - Thursday - 8am- 4pm
