- Provides weekly clinical contact, which may include short-term psychotherapy visits, for Veterans upon initial placement of the high-risk alert.
- Care coordination and timely response to clinical consults; provision of brief evidence-based individual psychotherapy; case management; data collection and tracking.
- Experienced in the assessment and management of a broad range of acute and chronic mental health difficulties, including outpatient crisis assessment/intervention, and substance-abuse disorders.
- Willing to learn all accreditation and regulatory requirements for the Mil Service, maintain annual Medical Center continuing education, and adhere to the best clinical practices.
- Responsible for data collection, administrative record keeping, and monitoring patient or program clinical indicators, thresholds, and performance measurements.
- Interviews veterans, families, and other significant contacts. Uses interviews to establish facts about the veteran's condition, the environment, available support, eligibility, and impact of circumstances on the veteran.
- Conducts suicide risk assessments with veterans which involve identification of known suicide risk factors, warning signs, stressors, and protective factors.
- Makes clinical judgments regarding level of assessed suicide risk and determines appropriate plan of care that is consistent with the level of assessed risk.
- Assures that all high-risk patients have completed a Safety Plan which documents crisis intervention strategies the veteran can use to remain safe.
- Responsible for contacting the primary therapist for veterans identified as being high risk for suicide to coordinate monitoring activities, tracking appointments and coordinating enhanced care as needed.
- Due to a critical staffing shortage, 38 U.S.C. § 7412 waives the requirement to apply Veterans' preference for this job announcement.

Summary
These positions are eligible for the EDRP, a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of your start date. Social Work:
These Suicide Prevention Case Manager, Social Worker positions are in Mental Health Services at the VA Maine Healthcare System and will be primarily stationed at the Togus, ME Campus with administrative and clinical responsibilities caring for MH outpatients at risk for suicidal behaviors. These positions are full-time at 40 hours per week.
Major duties may include but are not limited to:
Work Schedule: Full-time; Monday - Friday; 07:30am-4:00pm

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of existing pay, higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process.
