    Position Details

    LOCATION: Galesburg-Augusta Primary School

    START DATE: August 2024

    CERTIFICATION: Valid Michigan Special Education Certification in at least one area of disability (CI, EI, LD, etc.)

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Skills/experience teaching students with disabilities to progress in a modified and/or general education curriculum.
  • Skills/experience in setting up effective classroom management systems in collaboration with a behavior interventionist.
  • Experience with and knowledge of the elementary learner.
  • Knowledge of and experience teaching to the Common Core Curriculum, Michigan Grade Level Content Expectations (GLCEs) and Extended Grade Level Content Expectations (eGLCEs)
  • Solid foundation in pre-literacy, literacy skills, and math instruction.
  • Understanding of assessment methods including: progress monitoring, curriculum-based measurement, and formative assessment.
  • Experience in differentiated instruction is preferred.
  • Experience working with students with significant needs for academic and/or behavioral support

    • RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide instruction in the core curriculum areas and social skills per the IEP.
  • Work cooperatively with general education and other special education staff to provide successful programming to meet individual needs.
  • Complete, document, and facilitate IEPs consistent with district, state, and federal laws and guidelines.
  • Establish and maintain a positive classroom culture through use of positive behavior supports and classroom management
  • Other duties as assigned by administration

    • PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Ability to teach socially acceptable behavior employing techniques such as positive behavior intervention supports, replacement behaviors, and restorative practices.
  • Ability to utilize a social emotional learning curriculum.
  • Experience with the development of functional behavior assessments and implementation of positive behavior support plans
  • Knowledge and use of de-escalation techniques.
  • Knowledge of independent work systems for individual students.
