Position Summary

The Precision Components Group (PCG) within HBD has two factories in southern California located in Valencia (TPT) and El Cajon (PMP).

These facilities forge and machine metal parts for the defense, aerospace, and medical industries.

The Strategic Sourcing Manager will (a) strategically develop and sustain the PCG supply chain; and (b) manage the execution of purchase orders issued to our PCG suppliers.

This is a challenging supply chain environment with raw material leadtimes in the range of months. It also involves a combination of customer furnished and PCG procured materials. This role reports to the VP/GM of the Precision Components Group. It is a work from factory role, based at one of the two sites.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

Develop and maintain a source of supply for all orders in the forward backlog. This is a long cycle business, requiring strategic and longterm planning to ensure continuity of supply.
This supply chain includes both raw material suppliers and outside processors (OSP). Driving these providers to deliver on dates that align with our need dates is a key success factor for this role. This will likely include the development of secondary and tertiary sources of supply to protect the ontime and oncost delivery of products to our customers.
Engage with internal engineering teams and customers as required, to manage challenges with technical specifications for raw material and outside services.
Purchase price productivity for the materials and services procured by PCG is another area of focus for the role, from both short game and long game perspectives.
This role will collaborate continuously with the material control managers at both sites. They are the "internal customers" for the strategic sourcing manager role. This role is ultimately responsible for the performance of the suppliers of material and services for both plants. Additionally, it is critical for this collaborative team to always keep planned receipt dates aligned with the planned consumption dates for each procurement.

Experience and Education

B.S. degree in a technical or businessrelated field of study.
Experience in a commodity manager type role in supply chain, utilizing a structured approach to manage the commodity sourcing efforts.
Familiar with sourcing long lead time materials with leadtimes > 12 months.
Experience with the procurement of highend metal alloys, used for the manufacture of metal products.
The role requires travel across the two sites; and to suppliers as required. Frequency would be in the 20% travel range.
