Registered Nurse - North - Day Shift

Position Summary
The Registered Nurse works under the direction of the Nurse Manager and functions as a Team Leader.

He/she is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all nursing activities related directly or indirectly to patient care for a group of patients within a specific clinical area.

He/she evaluates patient's physical and psychosocial needs, administers direct patient care, and provides education for the patient and their family.

The Registered Nurse is responsible for all nursing personnel assigned to the Team. He/she functions as a mentor to their team, teaching and demonstrating nursing care procedures.

He/she maintains a professional profile, promotes cooperation, a positive attitude, and creates a safe environment for both patients and staff.

The Registered Nurse is responsible for knowing and adhering to established hospital policies and procedures, including all aspects of safety.


Duties of a Registered Nurse may include the following but are not limited to:

  • Uses the nursing process to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Collects data relevant to patient's condition and reports critical values to physician in a timely manner.
  • Assesses appropriate lab and diagnostic data
  • Documents findings of physical assessment and is able to identify abnormal findings.
  • Develops plan of care based on patient need.
  • Advocates on behalf of the patient and their family.
  • Performs interventions according to patient need and hospital policy.
  • Evaluates patient outcomes in relation to goals.
  • Adheres to all safety guidelines and exercises the utmost care when interacting with patients.
  • Demonstrates a professional demeanor in interactions with patient, family, peers, and staff, and maintains open communication with nursing management.
  • Other duties as deemed appropriate by management.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:


  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing
  • Current Licensure to practice in New York State
  • Current BLS provider certification from the American Heart Association
  • Current PALS provider certification from the American Heart Association
  • ACLS certification from the American Heart Association within 3 months of hire
  • Standing/walking 90% of the time.
  • Ability to lift patients with or without assistance
  • Ability to push heavy objects

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • Telemetry certification
  • One to two years of acute care nursing experience
  • Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke free environment. Smoking is strictly prohibited anywhere on campus, including parking lots and outdoor areas on the premises.
  • Shift differential available for night shift.
  • This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair.
  • This function/position maybe designated as "essential." This means that when the Hospital is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook Southampton Hospital and related facilities.
  • Successfully complete preemployment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton's Employee Health Services
  • Successfully complete a 4panel drug screen
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for preemployment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.
