We seek a passionate and dedicated teacher to join our school for students in grades 6-12 with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

As an ASD Teacher, you will play a crucial role in creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment that supports the unique needs of our students.

You will be responsible for designing and implementing individualized education plans, adapting teaching strategies, and providing support to ensure the academic, social, and emotional growth of students with ASD.

Your patience, creativity, and commitment to fostering a positive educational experience will contribute to our students' overall success and well-being.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficient in oral and written communication, adept in analytical, mathematical, organizational, and prioritization tasks.
  • Capable of managing swiftly changing priorities and demands, displaying flexibility and adaptability.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, facilitating effective communication and collaboration.
  • Possesses comprehensive knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and is committed to its complete implementation.
  • Familiar with Special Diploma Sunshine State Standards, Access Points/Alternate Assessment, and evidencebased and researchbased interventions for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
  • Understands effective instruction and positive behavioral support principles for students with disabilities, including behavioral management techniques and strategies.
  • Proficient in utilizing assessment tools and data collection methods to monitor student progress and guide instruction.
  • Skilled in differentiating instruction and adjusting teaching methods to meet the diverse needs and abilities of students with ASD.
  • Exhibits excellent communication and collaboration skills, collaborating effectively with parents, caregivers, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational and timemanagement abilities to manage multiple responsibilities efficiently.
  • Familiar with interpreting and enforcing relevant regulations, policies, and procedures, including HIPAA, Public Records, Sunshine Law, FERPA, and regulations pertaining to privacy, public information, and records retention.

Essential Job Functions:


  • Develop and implement individualized learning plans based on the specific needs and abilities of students with autism spectrum disorder.
  • Adapt instructional strategies and materials to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities, promoting a supportive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Utilize evidencebased practices and researchbased interventions to address the educational, behavioral, and socialemotional needs of students with ASD.
  • Collaborate with parents, caregivers, and a multidisciplinary team to develop and review IEPs, assess student progress, and establish goals and objectives.
  • Employ various teaching techniques, including visual aids, structured schedules, social stories, and sensory integration strategies, to facilitate learning and promote skill development.
  • Create a safe and structured classroom environment that fosters independence, selfregulation, and positive behavior management for students with ASD.
  • Utilize assistive technology and communication tools, such as visual schedules, visual supports, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices, to enhance student learning and communication.
  • Monitor student progress, collect data, and maintain accurate records to inform instructional planning and decisionmaking.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues, support staff, and related service providers to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach to student support.
  • Attend professional development opportunities and stay updated on best practices and research in ASD education to enhance instructional effectiveness and student outcomes.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom culture that promotes student engagement, selfconfidence, and selfadvocacy skills.
  • Provide support and guidance to paraeducators and classroom assistants in implementing instructional strategies and supporting students with ASD.
