Job Description:
The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for the delivery of primary gynecological care to a diverse student population focusing on preventative, maintenance and restorative care and employing evidence-based practice. Functions as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in the Medical Clinics, consisting of physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners. Should have a deep appreciation for a collaborative care model, partnering with Mental Health Service and Wellness and Health Promotion, and a commitment to advancing the divisional priorities of quality, access and inclusion, mattering and belonging.
Job Responsibilities
85% - Provides assessment, diagnosis, and appropriate medical management for Sexual Health and GYN complaints as well as health maintenance care, contraception, and annual exams; orders appropriate diagnostic tests, prescribes medication, performs minor surgical procedures, insertion of intrauterine devices and contraceptive implants and makes specialty, counseling and coaching referrals as appropriate; documents care in the electronic health record, employing care protocols and proper coding. Seeks consultation with director/ physician in maintaining both acute and chronic cases as needed.
5% - Management of abnormal pap smears including colposcopy, endocervical curettage and biopsy of cervix, vagina and vulva and/or referral to gynecologist as needed.
5% - Participates in unit meetings, campus education initiatives, quality improvement activities, mandatory LSU trainings and SHC yearly trainings, peer review and performance improvement studies.
5% - Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Due to the nature of the position and/or position responsibilities, this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.
Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays.
In accordance with University Policy Statement 18, this position is considered essential and may be required to report or stay on campus in the event of an emergency or closure.
