Bilingual Education & Prevention Advocate

  • Full Time/Non-Exempt: 36hours a week
  • Schedule: Flexible schedule Monday thru Friday with availability to work weekends.
- $40,000 annually

The Bridge is seeking a Bilingual Education & Prevention Advocate to engage in education, advocacy, and prevention of domestic and sexual violence programming to our community.

Daily duties include leading discussion-based presentations to young people, community members, and professionals; facilitating psychoeducational support groups in local middle and high schools; and engaging in community organizing work alongside a team of volunteers in the city of South Houston.

This advocate will work closely with our Hispanic and Latine communities, providing culturally-specific outreach and educational materials and activities with the goal of increasing awareness and preventing domestic and sexual violence.

The position requires familiarity speaking, writing, and reading in Spanish.


This advocate will also engage in various forms of community engagement and awareness work, including building relationships with community members and stakeholders, and developing educational social media content.

Additionally, the position involves working with different groups to plan awareness and community events, including co-hosting events in partnership with our community organizing program and participating in campaign and event-planning committees during awareness months.


As an advocate at a crisis center and as a representative of the center in the community, this position often involves providing crisis intervention and trauma-informed services to survivors of sexual and domestic violence.

This includes supporting survivors who disclose abuse within the community, as well as through our 24-hour hotline and hospital accompaniment program.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is preferred; however, preference will be given to those with experience in the field of social work and public health, as well as to those with experience working with survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
  • Bilingual; English & Spanish.
  • This advocate must be comfortable leading presentations and discussions, planning events, and developing educational materials, including social media content, in Spanish.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher. Demonstrated ability to facilitate educational group sessions and make public presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and monitor culturally competent programming to youth and adults.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule; including weekends and evenings.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the preparation of written reports and general business correspondence.
  • Must have reliable transportation; position is 50% travel.
  • Ability to develop, implement and monitor a program budget.
  • Knowledge of root causes of sexual and domestic violence; ability to facilitate discussions on oppression and gender socialization.
  • Conflict resolution and facilitation skills; ability to highlight common goals and perspectives in group setting. To better assist the survivors, knowledge of the community and legal resources, and the dynamics of domestic and sexual violence; homelessness and working with people with special needs.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques. Strong interpersonal skills, ability to establish rapport with diverse populations.
  • Most importantly, a successful advocate in this movement must embody empathy, compassion, and emotional intelligence, and committed to enhancing safety and equity in our society.

Other Requirements

  • Must pass criminal background investigation check
  • Must pass drug screen
  • Must provide and maintain current TX Driver's License
  • Must provide and maintain current auto liability insurance
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S
  • Must be able to lift/carry (40) lbs, and ascend/descend stairs in emergency shelter setting.
